Baltic states
Field marshal Wehlim stated that, in case of a Russian attack against the Baltic states, NATO could not defend them effectively. An effective line of defense could only be established in North Poland. This would be exactly the area (Olsztyn, Tannenberg), where – 100 years ago – a Russian army attacking East Prussia was annihilated during a really mythological battle by the Germans in August 1914. So far, so good. But this is, what war basically means: A strategic game we play in our sitting room, with maps on the table. And after we have played that game for a while, we notice that our mouths are full of blood.
