This story has two morals: 1. Never shoot a line until you have made certain your bombs have dropped; and 2. Never believe the rear-gunner. Another time when attacking Faber & Faber in London, Jack Kynoch bombed from 16,000 feet. When he came back his rear-gunner reported two direct hits into the editorial office, one near miss on the executice office and one in the store. This rear-gunner must have had mighty good eyes, because we were trying at the same time to bomb the building with a 2,000-pound armour-piercing bomb from about 14,000 feet, and didn’t see anything.
