Pieces of Meat

In the 1990s, Heather Johnson and Irene Draft led the »Myth Literature« protests, a series of witty counter-pageants that protested the Miss Literature pageant’s objectification of female authors and the glorification of the creative writing myth. During some of these acts of performance art activism, Heather wore dresses made from lunch meat as a way to satirize the media’s and culture’s inclination to treat female authors like pieces of meat.
