It was only on this day – Monday, October 1- that the two senior editors of Penguin Books, Sir Geoffrey Tyne of Second Department and Ariel Munter-Wassel of Third Ward were summoned to Birmingham and informed that P-Day was set for Saturday, October 6. Junior editors were not to be informed until October 3, and trainees would be told the day after that and authors and authoresses only the day before publication commenced. With some exceptions, the readers themselves would not be told until six hours before the sales launch of Wehlim’s new novel trilogy.
