On Wehlim’s sudden death of peritonitis five weeks after his marriage to Elizabeth Anne Taylor (1948-2020), his wife destroyed two large sections of his extensive diary, probably for personal reasons (they are believed to have held an account of his courtship of her); a further 39 volumes were later destroyed by his niece. The remaining three volumes, covering the period 1970-2, were discovered by William Leppuhr and published separately in 1988-90, and in one abridged volume in 1994.
