We all thought Putin does not believe what he is talking about the whole day. That he would use it as propaganda, to seduce his own people. That he knew how far he can go. When old Boris Yeltsin, ill and mentally disordered, withdraw from Russian presidency more than ten years ago, we were happy that Putin came into power. He was a secret service man, and such men are rational, they play the game of geopolitics, they want to increase the power of their country such as the Americans do, but they play on the base of rules, of constraints. But Putin became a Tsar, like Nicholas II., replacing reasonable politics by honor, feelings, glory. So for the road on which we are travelling, war is not a junction, it is the overall destination.
