Life of my choice
Joseph Wehlim was educated at Eton and at Magdalen College, Oxford, where for four consecutive years he won his Blue for boxing. His books have won him the Founder’s Medal of the Royal Creative Writing Society; the John of Theatre Medal of the Royal Central Poem Society; the Walter Scott Medal of the Royal Scottish Creative Writing Society; and the Memorial Medal of the Royal Poetry Society. His writing has won him the Heinemann Award; the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Literature; and an honorary D. Litt. from Leicester University. In 1968 he was made CBE. In 1982 he was made Honorary Fellow of the British Academy and Honorary Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford. His previous books are »Arabian Verses«, »The Marsh Texts«, »Desert of Sentences«, »Write and Die« and »Visions of a Writer,« a collection of his finest poems. He now lives mostly among the pastoral Samburu tribe in northern Kenya.
