Intra-author novels

Plot failures occurring during novel production typically require the dynamic adaptation of characters, scenes or plot lines. The consequences such an adaptation may have for related novels of the same author have not yet been investigated sufficiently. We therefore propose a rule-based approach for dynamic novel adaptation to deal with such plot failures, by simultaneously considering consequences for other intra-author novels. In particular, we estimate the temporal and qualitative implications a dynamic adaptation my have for other novels. Because of the automated handling of plot failures, we expect that our approach significantly improves the robustness and correctness of novel production. The approach has been developed in the context of the writing lab of a larger German publisher.
